Kent Ekolojisi Bağlamında Millet Bahçelerinin Kentsel Peyzaj İçindeki Rolü: Sivas 27 Haziran Öğretmenler Millet Bahçesi Örneği Üzerinden Bir Değerlendirme

Abstract

This study evaluates the role of nation gardens within urban landscapes through the theoretical framework of urban ecology. The research focuses on the 27 Haziran Öğretmenler Nation Garden, located in the city center of Sivas, Turkey. In this study, the historical use, spatial structure, recreational facilities, and social functions of this area were evaluated and examined using descriptive analysis methods. The findings reveal that the nation garden not only addresses the need for green urban spaces but also serves as a multifunctional public area that supports ecological balance, preserves urban memory, and promotes social inclusivity. The preservation and reinterpretation of the site’s existing vegetation, the integration of topographical features into the design, and the diversity of social amenities have transformed the area into a model of sustainable urban open space. Accordingly, this study demonstrates that nation gardens can act as a functional and holistic interface between nature and culture in the context of contemporary urban development.
