Abstract

Los resultados sobre la dinámica de la cobertura forestal revelan que el país al 2005 mantiene más de un 48% de su territorio con cobertura forestal (2.446,180 ha). Al menos 60% de la cobertura se estima es de bosques tardíos, el resto corresponde a bosques secundarios intermedios o tempranos. La cobertura forestal está muy fragmentada con un promedio de 153 ha/fragmento. Solo un 14% y 9 % del territorio nacional mantiene bosques con una franja de amortiguamiento de 500 y 1000 metros respectivamente. Las tasas de cambio de la cobertura forestal a nivel nacional fueron de pérdida 35,000 ha/año para el período 1960-79, 39,000 ha/año para 1979-86 y luego a tasas de recuperación de 17,000 ha/año para 1986-2000 y de 26,000 ha/año para 2000-05. Los procesos de recuperación y deforestación son causados ante todo por cambios en los factores socioeconómicos. Se señala que el desarrollo inmobiliario-turístico, los buenos precios y los mercados en expansión para cultivos y la carne han provocado actualmente algunos frentes de deforestación y una mayor fragmentación de la cobertura forestal existente. Por lo tanto es necesario acompañar los esquemas de Pago Servicios Ambientales (PSA) con enfoques integrados como planes reguladores y la planificación/gestión del paisaje para evitar la pérdida y la fragmentación de la cobertura forestal
