Abstract

El capítulo contiene, además de la descripción y análisis de los principales indicadores económicos con una perspectiva de mediano plazo, indagaciones más profundas sobre temas que afectarán las oportunidades, la estabilidad y la solvencia de la economía costarricense en los próximos años, como la evolución y el estado actual del sector de la construcción; la caracterización y tipología de la inversión extranjera directa; el origen, la ejecución real y la eficiencia en el uso de los recursos públicos; el auge del crédito dirigido a los consumidores y las familias; las fusiones y adquisiciones en el sector financiero; la pobreza, la desigualdad del ingreso y el empleo, y el cambio en la política cambiaria con la introducción del sistema de bandas. Adicionalmente, el capítulo incluye una serie de contribuciones sobre otros asuntos relevantes del desempeño económico, tales como los objetivos de la negociación de un acuerdo de asociación económica entre Centroamérica y la Unión Europea, la contribución de la firma Intel a la economía nacional, el nuevo proyecto de ley de banca de desarrollo y los esfuerzos de la administración tributaria para incrementar la recaudación, entre otros. Se incorpora como aporte especial al capítulo una sección que explica las características y el desarrollo diferenciado del turismo en Costa Rica, a partir del análisis de dos microrregiones: Tamarindo y la Fortuna.
