Abstract

Ungdomssegmentet oppfattes som en utfordrende brukergruppe for mange bibliotek. For å nå ungdommene har en del bibliotek egne dedikerte bibliotekarer som er ansvarlige for å arbeide med ungdomsrelaterte oppgaver. I Norge, som i mange andre sammenlignbare land i den vestlige verden, opplever bibliotek og bibliotekarer at en betydelig del av ungdomsgruppen bruker biblioteket lite, eller uteblir helt: “…ungdom er mellom dei som brukar biblioteket minst i dag…” (Sandvik 2012). I artikkelen I ungdoms distanserte nærleik – når folkebiblioteket vil samhandle med ungdom, uttaler Per Roger Sandvik (2012), prosjektkonsulent i Deichmanske bibliotek, at bibliotekene har erfart hvor vanskelig det kan være å utforme relevante tilbud til ungdom. Mange ungdommer opplever biblioteket og dets tilbud som lite attraktivt og selv om noen bruker biblioteket i sammenheng med skolen og andre benytter det på fritiden, er det stadig færre ungdom som bruker biblioteket sine tjenester.
