Dark Romanticism in its Polish variation is associated, above all, with representatives of the so-called Ukrainian school, i.e. Antoni Malczewski and Seweryn Goszczyński. Ukraine with its historical events and the beliefs of the local population was for these artists a source of inspiration. The article deals with some of these stimuli that we can find in the work by Antoni Marcinkowski, another representative of this group, who was at the same time a collector of folklore. Demonology, that is what we are referring to, was one of the themes of Dark Romanticism.
