Porqué utilizar un cultivo de cobertura

Abstract

Los cambios ocurridos en los últimos años en los sistemas de producción determinaron la aparición de una serie de conflictos entre el manejo y los recursos naturales (agua y suelo). Así, los sitios cuyos suelos sufrieron un importante deterioro presentaban menores rendimientos agronómicos y una baja eficiencia de utilización de los recursos. En la actualidad, la tendencia hacia una utilización del suelo que procure recuperar sus propiedades iniciales, junto a la adopción de prácticas conservacionistas de manejo, podría incrementar el contenido de carbono y contribuir a mejorar la condición física de los suelos y a hacer un uso más eficiente de los recursos para aumentar la productividad agronómica.
