In-Vessel Core Retention Strategy (IVCRS)

Abstract

The objective of the IVCRS CA is to address the possibility to ensure corium retention inside the vessel of future reactors in case of core melting. With this aim in view, the present Project has been launched in order to: 1 - establish the technical requirements and the safety approach for future NPPs; 2 - Propose several solutions aiming at maintaining the corium inside the vessel, 3 - Establish the methodology for the feasibility demonstration on the basis of the preliminary assessment of a specific concept which is taken as an example: the DIVER concept. The results of this one-year duration Project are described in the present paper.
