Abstract

Ventilated façades present several advantages over traditional façade cladding solutions, in aesthetic issues, in the real estate market and mainly in functional matters. In accordance with the functional requirements of external claddings, listed in LNEC's publication ITE 25, the aim of this work is to analyse two claddings recently launched in the Portuguese market and, consequently, still little explored by those involved in the construction sector. Therefore, initially, a general state of the art of ventilated façades and of all its constituent elements is discussed. Afterwards, an approach is made to the functional requirements concerning exterior claddings and then a detailed description of the constituent elements of the two systems presented. Finally, an analysis of the performance of the two studied claddings and ventilated façade systems is carried out.
