Cultivo de cebolla de día corto

Abstract

Tradicionalmente ha sido la cebolla Babosa la primera en el año cuya producción alcanzaba una cierta importancia y cuya exportación comenzaba a primeros de mayo. Las exportaciones de esta variedad en la campaña 84-85 alcanzaron las 57.600 Tm. Sobre el año 1980 se comenzaron a ensayar y poco después a producir para exportación variedades de día corto de las cuales la más conocida, Reina de Abril, ha dado el nombre a este tipo de variedades. La exportación de este tipo, incluida en la denominación Otras Variedades en las estadísticas del Ministerio de Agricultura, Pesca y Alimentación, ha pasado de 112 Tm. en la campaña 80-81 a 6.500 Tm. en la 84-85. Con seguridad estas variedades no van a desplazar a la tradicional Babosa del mercado, pero sí van a permitir introducirse en él con cebolla nueva, tanto de forma aplanada tipo Reina como esférica, similar a la Babosa, unos 15 ó 20 días antes.
