Plaguicidas y enemigos naturales en cítricos

Abstract

Los plaguicidas son una de las armas más poderosas con que contamos para el control de plagas, sin embargo, una de las bases de cualquier estrategia de Manejo Integrado de Plagas es diminuir su uso, y dar preferencia, siempre que sea posible, a factores naturales de mortalidad para la regulación de las poblaciones de fitófagos. En el caso concreto de los cítricos, nos encontramos con fitófagos que se encuentran bajo un control biológico excelente, como es el caso de la cochinilla acanalada (Icerya purchasi), controlada por su depredador, el coccinélido Rodolia cardinalis. En otros casos, el control, sin ser excelente, puede considerarse bueno, como ocurre, por ejemplo, con la mosca blanca algodonosa, Alevrothrixus floccosus, con su parasitoide Cales noacki, o con el ácaro rojo, Panonychus citri, y su depredador, el fitoseido Euseius stipulatus. Por último, existen plagas para las que no disponemos de enemigos naturales eficaces, y entonces, no nos quedará más remedio que acudir a la lucha química.
