Enfermedades bacterianas que amenazan la citricultura en España

Abstract

La introducción de determinadas bacterias fitopatógenas constituye una seria amenaza para muchos cultivos estratégicos, como los cítricos, porque pueden causar pérdidas muy cuantiosas a nivel económico, social e incluso ecológico. La tasa de entrada en España de organismos patógenos de plantas ha aumentado en los últimos años, principalmente debido a la globalización. Ante la libre circulación de productos agrícolas iniciada en 1993 en la Unión Europea, se establecieron zonas fitosanitarias con el fin de impedir el trasiego de plantas. Estas zonas demarcan áreas de producción libres de enfermedades, lo que se consigue mediante inspecciones sistemáticas y estrategias de defensa y protección. Una vez que una enfermedad es detectada, su manejo es, generalmente, difícil, limitado y largo, y conlleva un gasto elevado. Por ello, el mejor método de control es la prevención.
