Introdução: desde que os cimentos biocerâmicos apareceram há trinta anos na área da endodontia, atraíram instantaneamente o Médico Dentista pelas suas características hidrofílicas, bioativas e de fácil aplicação. Esta classe de materiais tem-se mostrado capaz de preencher as áreas irregulares do espaço do sistema de canais radiculares. Em geral, os cimentos endodônticos à base de Resina Epóxi apresentam baixa solubilidade, contrastando com os cimentos à base de silicato de cálcio que apresentam na literatura resultados de solubilidade duvidosos. Objetivos: objetivo desta revisão è responder à seguinte questão: Os Cimentos Biocerâmicos apresentam uma maior solubilidade do que os cimentos de Resina Epóxi?Objetivo secundário: comparar a libertação de iões de cálcio entre ambos. Materiais e métodos: foi realizada uma pesquisa eletrónica na PUBMED utilizando uma combinação dos seguintes termos científicos: dental cement, epoxy resins, , Bioceramic sealer, solubility. A pesquisa realizada identificou 416 artigos, dos quais 11 foram considerados relevantes para este estudo. Resultados: A maioria dos artigos selecionados concluíram que os cimentos à base de silicato de cálcio tiveram maiores resultados de solubilidade. Discussão: 9 artigos (81%) concluíram que os cimentos à base de silicato de cálcio tiveram maiores resultados de solubilidade (fora dos padrões aceites pelo ANSI/ADA de <3% solubilidade); 2 artigos (19%) não encontraram diferenças significativas (de acordo com os padrões ANSI/ADA de <3% solubilidade). Conclusão: os estudos obtiveram maiores resultados de solubilidade nos cimentos biocerâmicos, no entanto, são muitos os fatores encontrados que limitam os resultados destes estudos.
Introduction: ever since bioceramic cement appeared thirty years ago in endodontics, it instantly attracted dentists due to its hydrophilic, bioactive, and easy-to-apply characteristics. This class of materials has been shown to fill irregular space areas in the root canal system. In general, epoxy resin-based endodontic cement has low solubility, contrasting with calcium silicate-based cement, presenting dubious solubility results in the literature. Objectives: The aim of this review is to answer the following question: Bioceramic cements have a higher solubility than epoxy resin cements?secondary aim: to compare the calcium ion release between the two. Materials and methods: an electronic search was performed on PUBMED using a combination of the following scientific terms: dental cement, epoxy resins, Bioceramic sealer, and solubility. The research carried out identified 416 articles, of which 11 were considered relevant for this study. Results: Most of the selected articles concluded that calcium silicate-based cements had higher solubility results. Discussion: 9 articles (81%) concluded that calcium silicate-based cement had higher solubility results (outside the standards accepted by ANSI/ADA of <3% solubility); 2 articles (19%) found no significant differences (according to ANSI/ADA standards of <3% solubility). Conclusion: The studies obtained better solubility results in bioceramic cement, however, there are many factors found that limit the results of these studies.
