Abstract

O freio labial superior é uma das estruturas anatómicas presentes na cavidade oral mais variável. Esta pode sofrer várias alterações morfológicas, sendo considerado patológico se possuir anormalidades anatómicas relacionadas com o comprimento, volume, solidez e inserção topográfica que contribuem para o desenvolvimento de doença. Observa-se frequentemente uma inserção anormal desta estrutura, originando patologias clínicas fundamentalmente de natureza ortodôntica, protética, fonética e periodontal. Existem várias técnicas disponíveis para o tratamento cirúrgico freio labial superior patológico, as convencionais, que englobam os procedimentos executados com bisturi cirúrgico, nomeadamente, a técnica simples, técnica romboidal, reposicionamento apical do freio, Zetaplastia, técnica de Miller, técnica de Bagga, frenectomia por eletrocauterização e cirurgia fibrosa, e as que recorrem ao uso de lasers com comprimentos de onda variáveis como o laser de CO2, Er:Yag, Er, Cr: YSGG, Nd:Yag e de Díodo.
