Abstract

Las inundaciones son un problema que se agrava por los niveles de vulnerabilidad social existentes al crearse un ambiente de riesgo cuando afectan al ser humano por causar pérdida de vidas o daños en el entorno construido y natural al que tiene acceso el hombre y del cual obtiene algún beneficio. En este trabajo se plantea determinar la vulnerabilidad social por inundaciones utilizando la metodología que integra las características y condiciones de vida de las personas, estimadas en el Índice de Marginación por sección electoral 201 O y su cercanía al desarrollo de las inundaciones registradas en los polígonos de inundación de la Comisión del Agua del Estado de México del 2000-2010. Haciendo uso de herramientas estadísticas y Sistemas de Información Geográfica se logró determinar el grado de vulnerabilidad social por inundaciones tomando como caso de estudio al Estado de México, del que resultaron casi un 43% de secciones electorales afectadas por inundaciones y el 47.36% de la población que habita en ellas, que además ocupan más del 50% de los municipios de la entidad mexiquense.
