Alongside sustainable development, the concept of sustainability has begun to be utilized in various areas of life (such as life, planning, design, management, settlement, space, urban, etc.). Subsequently, along with the concept, the objectives of sustainable development have been moved to these areas. Sustainable placements are one of these areas. Today, sustainable settlements are one of the key aims of urban and rural planning and design. Ecovillages, which are the subject of this chapter, are examples of sustainable settlements and communities. This chapter deals with the emergence of the ecovillages, their characteristics, and samples.
