The Aplication of a Method in Determining Coast Line Recreation Potential: Case of the Center District of Tekirdag

Abstract

The province of Tekirdag, due to its geographical setting, is situated in a place of transition connecting our country to Europe. The coastal zone of Tekirdag, which attracts attention with its natural, cultural and historical riches, has a very intensive use. Today, as a result of rapid urbanization, industrialization and increasing population densities, open and green areas functioning as the lungs of cities are decreasing every day and consequently biological order is changing, the balance between structured areas and natural surrounding is deteriorating and the various use of coastline is changing. The coastline plays an important role in satisfying the need of the population of the administrative center of Tekirdag for open areas and in providing the users with their recreational needs within their daily life. In this study, the aim has been to examine the present situation of the coastline of the center district of Tekirdag, which has an important function in terms of urban open and green areas, to present the recreational potential use of the area by the way of an application method and to provide sustainability of natural and cultural sources and the precautions to be taken. Through research, Tekirdag coastline were found to be 65% of the recreation potential. Accordingly, the recreation potential of this area the high was considered to be.
