Abstract

In concomitanza con le numerose crisi degli ultimi anni, gli appelli alla “solidarietà” nella sfera pubblica si sono moltiplicati e il valore dell’aiuto reciproco e della condivisione di risorse e rischi è stato ampiamente riscoperto e riattualizzato, anche con relativo successo. Eppure, l’idea di solidarietà risulta ancora ostaggio di una cattiva retorica che rende il suo richiamo innocuo e generico. Sorta nel lessico giuridico latino, sostituto moderno degli antichi legami di fraternità ed erede della Rivoluzione francese e di quella industriale, essa è sin dall’inizio concepita come risposta concreta – fondata essenzialmente sul riconoscimento di un’interdipendenza – a contraddizioni e palesi ingiustizie, così come ai problemi di integrazione sociale. Il libro ripercorre le principali tappe storico-filosofiche di un concetto in parte sottostimato e dimenticato dalla più ampia riflessione sulla giustizia, contribuendo a riscoprirne i caratteri più distintivi (primi fra tutti: reciprocità e orizzontalità) e la sua importanza decisiva sul piano politico e morale. Il testo si misura anche con le sfide e i problemi che riguardano la solidarietà europea e le prospettive di mutuo supporto su scala globale.
