Abstract

[EN]The effects an increase in greenhouse-gases concentrations might have on El Niño-Oscilación del Sur (ENSO) are investigated through the analysis of a control and an SRESA2-scenario simulations performed with the HadCM3 coupled model. Both simulations show two classes of warm ENSO episodes, whose characteristic features are reminiscent of the change in ENSO behaviour that ocurred in the late 70's. Sea surface temperature anomalies propagate westwards along the equator in one of the classes, while they travel eastward or grow stationarily in the other. Episodes of this second type suffer an increase in their amplitude under the climate change conditions of the secenario run. This intensification affects only this class of events and this with no impact on their relative aboundance.
