The working paper summarizes data collected in a pre-project on strategies and measures for climate change adaption in the western part of Norway. The project was financed by Regionalt forskningsfond Vestlandet and had as a main ambition to build competence within social science climate research and develop ideas for a larger research project within this area. The working paper maps measures initiated in order to tackle expected problems due to climate change in three counties: Rogaland, Hordaland and Sogn og Fjordane, concentrating on the work of the County Governors, County Councils and a selection of municipalities within the region. In addition, we give an overview of media coverage of climate change issues in a selection of regional newspapers. Our main interest has been to study what measures and strategies public authorities in the region make use of. Current measures, organization, multi-level arrangements and coordination are central issues. The paper gives an overview over the organisation and relevant measures concerning climate change at the national level, and organisation, responsibility lines and relevant measures at the regional and local level. The paper concludes with a discussion of ideas for further research.
