Matematikk og rettferdighet

Abstract

Sammendrag: Masteroppgaven matematikk og rettferdighet handler om et prosjekt der matematikk i samfunnet står sentralt. Prosjektet Stortingsmandatene ble gjennomført to ganger. I første omgang på 10. trinn og i andre omgang på 9. trinn i kalenderåret 2018. Undervisningsopplegget heter Stortingsmandatene og handler om at elever skal lage en modell for fordeling av stortingsmandatene til fylkene. Opplegget handler om at elevene skal jobbe med å argumentere for hvorfor deres modell er rettferdig. Da åpnes det for at elevene kan se at det ikke er et gitt fasitsvar på hva rettferdighet er, samtidig som de blir bedre kjent med valgordningen i Norge og får stimulert utviklingen sin til å bli en demokratisk medborger. Forskningsspørsmålene som stilles er: Hvordan bidrar prosjektet til å vise hvordan elevene ser på rettferdighet? og På hvilke måter begrunner elevene hva som er en rettferdig fordeling? Kort sammenfattet mener 9. trinns elevene at rettferdighet handler om å dele likt, mens 10. trinns elevene mener at man må ta ulike hensyn, for at noe skal være rettferdig og at en fordeling skal skje i forhold til noe annet. Dette får frem at elever i alderen 14-16 år befinner seg på ulike steder i sin moralutvikling. Samtidig får prosjektet frem at samtaler rundt rettferdighet er noe som engasjerer elevene og at de har ulike oppfatninger om hva som er rettferdig.
