In the Norwegian context, there are no national guidelines for antisocial personality disorder. Prevalence amongst youths do not exist. This professional-political enquiry seeks to examine the use of antisocial personality disorder as a diagnosis for youths below the age of 18 in the course of two steps. 1) Whether there are scientific grounds for applying the diagnosis to youths below 18 years of age. 2) Whether the use of the dagnosis within this population is scientifically recommended. Scientific grounds are examined through a limited search for literature. The literature is scientific and socio-political, and is used to examine, among others, the validity and reliability of the diagnosis, as well as various treatments offered to youths with relevant symptoms. Scientific recommendations are discussed by evaluating the research in accordance with evidence-based practice, patient’s rights and clinical implications. There are scientific grounds for diagnosing youths with antisocial personality disorder. However, research on effective treatments is insufficient. Therefore, it is recommended to initiate pilot projects to examine, diagnose and treat antisocial personality disorder using evidence-based interventions. With the impeding implementation of the ICD-11, it is recommended to implement the scientific evidence in the revision of the clinical guidelines.
