Kroppsholdningsfenomenet og Kroppsholdningsundersøkelse i Psykomotorisk Fysioterapi

Abstract

The aim of this study was to explore Norwegian psychomotor physioterapist´s thoughts and reflections on body posture and examination of body posture. I wanted to look at the meaning the findings from the body posture examination had for the participants and how they implemented the findings in treatment, illuminated by concrete examples from their clinical work. The starting point was my own uncertainty regarding body posture examination´s value as a part of the psychomotor body examination. Methodology and method: The study is embedded in a hermeneutical research tradition. In order to be able to answer the research question, it has been reasonable to select a qualitative research design. Qualitative research methods are suitable when the goal is to explore the deeper meaning of phenomena as they are being experienced by the involved persons, and can contribute to create diversity and nuances. As a method for data collection I have chosen a focus group interview. The selection of participants consisted of six experienced Norwegian psychomotor physiotherapists with varied clinical work. For the analysis of the data I used Malterud´s systematic text condensation (STC). Results: The interview data were analyzed and systematized in the following main categories: 1: Body posture preconditions and function: basic understanding within psychomotor physiotherapy (PMF), 2: Body posture´s place in PMF-examination, and 3: Body posture´s place in PMF-treatment. The informants accentuated body posture examination as an important part of the psychomotor body examination. Body posture tells something about bodily habits and manners, degree of body alertness, strains and attitude towards the world, they claimed. In treatment the informants endeavored a gradual posture restructuring that involves several body systems, and that can help the pasient to find an as stable, flexible and functional posture as possible. The ideal body posture is the one that is closest to the principle of centered joints and minimal amount of muscle tension, the informants claimed. Conclusion: The informant´s approaches in examination and treatment are clearly grounded on classic psychomotor theory.
