Pratylenchus penetrans did not reproduce without males. Cytological examination indicated that cross-fertilization occurred. Females had a chromosome number of 2n = 12. Virgin females reared in isolation laid eggs, but these failed to undergo cleavage. Males reared in isolation produced sperms.
