A febrile disease, produced by a specific poison, and characterised by inflammation, and sloughing, or ulceration of the glands of the small and sometimes of the large intestines, and especially of the agminate and solitary glands of the ileum, together with infiltration of the mesenteric glands, with enlargement of the spleen, and the presence of an inconstant roseolous rash.
