Abstract

Of the analysis of five rocky areas in the intertidal zone of the Esmeraldas province: Tachina, Balao, Súa-Atacames, Galera and Mompiche, from the limit of the high tide to the limit of the low tide, were founded nine (9) species of drilling bivalves molluscs, that belong to three families: Mytilidae, Petricolidae and Pholadidae. Petricola denticulata was the most abundant species in the Esmeraldas province and represents the 26.1% among all species, whiles the sites or stations that were observed the greater abundance of organisms were Balao and Súa-Atacames with 39.1% each one. The greater richness of species was observed in Súa-Atacames, having reprsented 50% of the total diversity. In Tachina station, drilling rock organism were not observed. The distribution of the following species is extended: Petricola cognata from the area of Panama to Ecuador and Petricola parallela from Nicaragua to Ecuador.
