
Tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) is viral zoonosis transmitted by the infected ticks harboring TBE virus. Mortality rate reaches 30% of in some cases. More than 10,000 patients were reported annually in Europe and Far-East Asia. In 1993, the first case of TBE was reported in Japan, and TBE virus was isolated, which showed TBE virus is endemic in Japan.
