
The authors present some basic considerations on the fundamental problems raised by odontoid fractures. The necessity is stressed of a correct diagnosis as well as for careful evaluation of the evolution, this lesion being characteristically unstable and precariously consolidated. This is why the authors suggest an early surgical procedure in such cases.
