Data on the number of foreigners living in France are examined. The author notes that their number has stabilized since 1982 and that "this stabilization is accompanied by an extensive renewal of the foreign population.... The proportion of residents of European nationality continues to shrink while that of people of more remote origins (i.e. the Maghreb, and particularly black Africa and Asia) rises."
