Morphological and Physiological Characteristics and Growth Stages of Containerized Seedlings of Taurus Cedar (Çankırı Forest Nursery)

Abstract

Seedling quality is a major tool in adaptation at plantation sites for Taurus cedar (Cedrus libani A. Rich.), which tends to expand its potential distribution area thanks to the effect of climate change. For this purpo-se; in this study conducted on the seedlings of Mersin-Mut origin with polyethylene bags in the ecological conditions of Çankırı state forest nursery; i) Periodic changes in morphological and physiological seedling characteristics, ii) Morphological seedling characteristics and their compliance with Turkish Standards by the end of the second vegetation period, iii) proposing appropriate nursery cultural operations for the stages of seedling growth have been aimed. As a result of research; 2+0 aged seedlings height (SH), root collar diameter (RCD), the stem fresh weight (SFW), root fresh weight (RFW), the fresh total weight of the seedlings (STFW), the stem dry weight (SDW), root dry weight (RDW), seedling total dry weight (STDW), the ratio of the stem dry weight to root dry weight (KI), the ratio of seedling height to root collar diameter (GI), dry root percentage (DRP%) and Dickson quality index (DQI), it has been determined as follows; 18.57±0.316 cm, 4.9±0.053 mm, 7.86±0.436 g, 7.57±.291 g, 14.63±0.612 g, 3.82±0.256 g, 3.69±0.183 g, 7.21±0.733 g, 1.09±0.042, 30.7±0.718, 55.31%±1.355 and 1.67±0.059 respectively. The ?md values of the seedlings showed seasonal changes and decreased in the months when there was low rainfall. The lowest values were found July and September with -1.84 and -2.25 MPa, respectively, and the highest value of -1.39 MPa was found in April. The lowest Fv/Fm value was found in March with 0.57 and the highest in July with 0.81. According to the method of” daily dry matter change"; from March 15th to April 15th is “exit of dormant stage”; from May 15th to July 15th is “growing+fast growing stage”; from July 15th to August 15th is “deceleration stage”; and from September 15th to October 15th has been determined as the “lignification stage” as the stages of seedling development. The highest increase in dry matter occurred during the “growing+fast growing stage” (35.96 mg/day), while the lowest increase in dry matter (5.06 mg/day) was detected during the “exit from dormant stage”.

İklim değişikliği etkisiyle potansiyel yayılış sahasını genişletme eğilimindeki Toros sediri (Cedrus libani A. Rich.) için plantasyon sahalarındaki adaptasyonda fidan kalitesi major bir araç durumundadır. Bu amaçla; Çankırı fidanlığı ekolojik koşullarında, polietilen tüplü Mersin-Mut orijinli fidanlar üzerinde yürütülen bu araştırmada; i) Morfolojik ve fizyolojik fidan özelliklerinin dönemsel değişimleri, ii) İkinci vejetasyon dönemi sonu itibariyle morfolojik fidan özellikleri ve Türk Standartlarına uygunlukları, iii) fidan gelişim dönemlerine uygun fidanlık kültürel işlemlerin önerilmesi hedeflenmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda; 2+0 yaşlı fidanlarda boy (FB), kök boğazı çapı (KBÇ), gövde taze ağırlığı (GTA), kök taze ağırlığı (KTA), fidan taze ağırlığı (FTA), gövde kuru ağırlığı (GKA), kök kuru ağırlığı (KKA), fidan kuru ağırlığı (FKA), katlılık indisi (Kİ), gürbüzlük indisi (Gİ), kuru kök yüzdesi (%Kkök) ve Dickson kalite indisi (DKİ) sırasıyla; 18,57±0,316 cm, 4,9±0,053 mm, 7,86±0,436 g, 7,57±0,291 g, 14,63±0,612 g, 3,82±0,256 g, 3,69±0,183 g, 7,21±0,733 g, 1,09±0,042, 30,7±0,718, %55,31±1,355 ve 1,67±0,059 olarak tespit edilmiştir.
