The Last Judgement frescoed in the church of San Francesco at Amatrice at the very end of the 14th century no longer exists. After the earthquake of October 2016 the right wall of the church collapsed and the last two large fragments of the wall painting still surviving were destroyed. The paper focuses on this artwork in a mendicant context and its iconographic relationship with the Late Gothic Last Judgement at the churches of Santa Maria in Piano at Loreto Aprutino (Abruzzo, 1410-1420) and of San Pietro at Castignano (Marche, 1425 ca.), south and north respectively of the Tronto river, both depicting the very rare motif of the “Bridge of Purgatory”.
