Introducción. Las condiciones de seguridad alimentaria y nutricional en Colombia, aunque han mejorado, continúan siendo complejas. Según datos de la Encuesta Nacional de Situación Nutricional (ENSIN 2010) el 42,7% de la población del país no tiene alimentos. Si bien en Colombia ha implementado estrategias para disminuir la inequidad alimentaria y nutricional, el país tiene una de las más elevadas de Latinoamérica y esto se ve reflejado en la prevalencia de inseguridad alimentaria en el hogar (ISAH). En el municipio de Arauca, dicha encuesta indica que un 69,6% de los hogares percibió algún grado de ISAH, de éstos un 22,4% está en Inseguridad Alimentaria y Nutricional moderada y severa, puesto que al menos un miembro del hogar ha pasado hambre. Materiales y métodos. Perspectiva socio crítica con enfoque cualitativo de tipo etnográfico. Se utilizaron diferentes técnicas de investigación como la entrevista semiestructurada, la observación participante y el diario de campo; asimismo, se realizó revisión documental. Lo anterior, se dio en diversos escenarios relacionados con la producción, distribución y consumo de alimentos, en donde se interactuó con diferentes individuos y colectivos relacionados con este tema. Resultados y discusión. A través del presente trabajo de investigación se logró dar un panorama general de la Seguridad Alimentaria y Nutricional en el municipio de Arauca. Donde se ven afectados procesos económicos, sociales, políticos, demográficos y culturales, que se expresan en la producción, la distribución y el consumo de alimentos, hasta la utilización biológica de mismos, y que finalmente repercute en la Situación Alimentaria y Nutricional de la población.

Introduction. The conditions of food and nutrition security in Colombia, although they have improved, continue to be complex. According to data from the National Survey on Nutritional Situation (ENSIN 2010), 42.7% of the country's population does not have food. Different research techniques were used, such as the semi-structured interview, the participant observation and the field diary; likewise, a documentary review was carried out. The above, occurred in various scenarios related to the production, distribution and consumption of food, where interacted with different individuals and groups related to this issue. Results and Discussion. Through this research work we have been able to give a general overview of Food and Nutritional Security in the municipality of Arauca. Where economic, social, political, demographic and cultural processes are affected, which are expressed in the production, distribution and consumption of food, up to the biological use of same, and which ultimately affects the Food and Nutritional Situation of the population .
