By the establishment of the Republic of Turkey, educatıon got an important role in movement of revolution that will change the social, legal and economic structure of Turkish society. By means of Turkish Heart, Public Schools and Community Centers movement, it is provided taht awareness of public and organization under the leadership of Atatürk. Foreign educatıon specialists and teachers were benefited to provide modernizatıon in the field of training.Democrat Party, is a major milestone in the political history of Turkey after its establishment, put an end to the period of single party by the support of large mass of public. To be able to understand between the years 1950-1960 the works of adult educatıon of DP Government, they are researched that the history of adult educatıon, the process of multiparty political life and the works of adult educatıon in period of DP. Modernizatıon and development of community provided by Turkish Hearts and Community Centre, indicate the importance that is given to adult educatıon studies. DP Government invited Prof. Watson Dickerman to Turkey, who is specialists of adult educatıon. Dickerman presented his report, prepared by the result of various investigatıons to the Ministry of Educatıon. The report he presented and his recommendatıons in the field of adult educatıon registered important influence in adult educatıon policy of DP Government.Keywords: Democrat Party, Adult Education, The Community Centers.

Türkiye Cumhuriyeti'nin kurulması ile birlikte, Türk toplumunun siyasi, sosyal, hukuki ve ekonomik yapısını değiştirecek olan inkılâp hareketleri içerisinde eğitim önemli bir yere sahiptir. Atatürk'ün önderliğinde, Türk Ocakları, Millet Mektepleri ve Halkevleri hareketiyle, halkın bilinçlenmesi, örgütlenmesi sağlanmıştır. Eğitim alanında modernleşmenin sağlanması için yabancı eğitim uzmanı ve öğretmenlerden yararlanılmıştır.Türkiye siyasi tarihinde önemli bir dönüm noktası olan DP, kuruluşundan sonra geniş bir halk desteğiyle, tek parti dönemine son vermiştir. Demokrat Parti iktidarının 1950-1960 yılları arasında uyguladığı halk eğitimi çalışmalarını anlayabilmek için, halk eğitiminin tarihçesi, çok partili hayata geçiş süreci ve DP döneminde halk eğitimi alanında yapılan faaliyetler incelenmiştir. Türk Ocakları ve Halkevleriyle yaşanan toplum kalkınması ve modernleşme, halk eğitimi çalışmalarına verilen önemi göstermektedir. DP iktidarı halk eğitimi alanında faydalanmak üzere Halk eğitimi uzmanı Prof. Watson Dickerman'ı Türkiye'ye davet etmiştir. Dickerman yaptığı çeşitli incelemeler sonucunda hazırladığı raporu Milli Eğitim Bakanlığı'na sunmuştur.
