Abstract

In this study blood sera samples were collected from 10 sheep flocks from Afyonkarahisar central villages and Şuhut, Sultandağı, Emirdağ, Çobanlar, Sandıklı, İhsaniye and İscehisar boroughs. Ages of the used sheep were 6 month old and older (up to 5 years old) and all of them were female due to breeding aim. Chronical respiratory system problems with middle level severity has been continued for month in 4 of these enterprises. These data obtained from with both anamnesis and from veterinarians who carried out the medical treatment. Additionally clinical disorders were confirmed during sampling. Dry cough, wasting, continous nasal discharges like symptoms have been seen. Out of thsese flocks, classical medical treatment has been applied before for respiratory system infection in the flocks no 2 and 3, however obvious recovery was not seen observed. Clinical examination findings of the sheeps were normal from other 6 enterprises (number 5-10). These enterprises were used as a control group. In this study, blood serum samples were obtained from 166 from clinical disorders detected flocks and 128 from healthy flocks, in total 294 sheep were sampled. As a result of controls using indirect-ELISA, out of 10 enterprises, VMV positivity was detected in 5 varied between 3.1% and 14.8% proportions. Out of first 4 enterprises which clinical disorders have been seen, positivity were determined in 3 among 9% and 14.8%. Except that, the infection was detected serologically in 2 flocks of 6 flocks that have no clinical problem seen. In the flocks from Ihsaniye and Şuhut, 9.3% (3/32) and 3.1% (1/17) proportions were detected, respectively. The all of the other sheep from 4 flocks (5, 7, 8, 9) were found to be negative. In this study, presence of VMV infection was detected in 5 enterprises of 10, in total, out of 294 samples 17 (5.7%) were VMV positive. As statistically, no correlation was detected among the flocks according to clinical disorder presence
