OPEN SPACES AS DYNAMIC URBAN ENVIRONMENTS

OPEN SPACES AS DYNAMIC URBAN ENVIRONMENTS

Abstract

This book is the result of scientific and didactic experiences gained by the authors on the themes, and with the tools, of environmental design, with it aiming to make a point on the current state of the art and perspectives related to the ability of open spaces, and related infrastructures, to play a strategic role as a dynamic element in urban regeneration processes. Considering the various methodological and applicative aspects, and sharing the concept of resilience applied to anthropized contexts, the authors propose critical considerations on innovative strategies, aimed at improving technological and environmental performance as well as reaction capacity in the context of the delicate relationship between natural and built environments. Starting from the main critical aspects related to the environmental, technological and social dimensions of the designing and redevelopment of non-built spaces in an eco-oriented key, the book outlines the organisational methods, based on the network logic, with which to open spaces in an anthropized context, focusing on project areas linked to urban regeneration: from the improvement of environmental conditions to sustainable mobility strategies. Attention is also given to the system of infrastructural networks in support of open spaces that must be structured in a manner compatible with the changes that are sustainable from the environment in which they are located. It is therefore proposed to consider networks as a system of networks of connection, integration and protection of the anthropic intervention that enhance the ecological and environmental qualities of the territory by providing it with appropriate and sustainable services. A connection element since the network system can create an interconnection of built and natural services and spaces through optimization processes both in terms of the buildings that it serves as well as the natural environment and ecological context in which it is inserted and that it helps to change.
