Urban civilisation has always developed around the use and control of water resources, and environmental ethics is fundamental issue for sustainable policies: the fair distribution of water resources is pressing issue that must be met with new political , legal and cultural regulations, capable of awoiding new conflicts and injustice. Climate changes, water and energy influence today’s and tomorrow’s urban design, provoking both a lack of and an excess of water. New emergency strategies influence today and tomorrow urban design: the rising sea level, the recurring flooding of coastal and river-front settlements, the area undergoing desertification demands new answers from short to mid to long term, while assessing risk and vulnerability in medium and long term is an integral part for sustainable urban design. This book collect some selected papers discussed during blue in architecture 09 - Water Climate Change and Architecture, First International Symposium, September 24th_27th 2009, Università Iuav di Venezia.
