Abstract

Una ricognizione basata sui documenti degli esempi più rilevanti nell’architettura religiosa, civile e militare della città di Padova nel Cinquecento, precisando le principali campagne edilizie ed evidenziando i modelli di riferimento che la accomunano ad altre realtà italiane, quali Ferrara, Vicenza e naturalmente Venezia e Roma. Il saggio analizza i lavori al complesso benedettino di Santa Giustina, comprendenti la rifondazione della basilica, l’architettura delle istituzioni veneziane come i palazzi del Governo e dell’Università patavina, le residenze urbane e suburbane per umanisti, condottieri e prelati ideate da Falconetto, Jacopo Sansovino e Andrea Palladio, tra cui la scenografia della Loggia e dell’Odeo Cornaro e la villa-palazzo per il vescovo Pisani a Montagnana, infine il lungo cantiere della cappella dell’Arca nella Basilica di Sant’Antonio, da due secoli la più frequentata meta di pellegrinaggio del Nord Italia.
