Holocene co-seismic deformation at Capo Vaticano (Calabria): New data from raised paleo-shorelines

Abstract

Deformazione cosismica olocenica a Capo Vaticano (Calabria): nuovi dati da paleo-linee di costa sollevate. Il rilievo di dettaglio di linee di costa tardo oloceniche sollevate lungo il promontorio di Capo Vaticano (Calabria) ha fornito evidenze del contributo di eventi improvvisi ad un processo di sollevamento tettonico costante. Sono state rilevate tre paleo-linee di costa a diversa quota. La correlazione tra i dati di campagna e le datazioni assolute 14C AMS hanno permesso di assegnare altezze ed età nominali alle differenti paleo linee di costa: la prima, ad un'altezza di ~1.8 m, si è sviluppata tra 5.8 e 5.5 ka BP; la seconda, ad un'altezza di ~1.5 m, si è formata tra 3.9 e 1.9 ka BP; per la terza, ubicata a ~0.7 m non si ha al momento alcun vincolo cronologico. Le paleo-linee appaiono leggermente basculate verso nord-est. Dai dati cronologici si evince quindi la ricorrenza di almeno due sollevamenti cosismici che negli ultimi 5 ka hanno dislocato l'area costiera di Capo Vaticano, sovrimposti su un sollevamento regionale con tasso di 1 mm/a.
