Design parametrico e generativo: nuove prospettive di ricerca

Abstract

Se nella pratica del disegno architettonico e industriale appare evidente lo spartiacque determinatosi con l’introduzione dell’informatica (computer science) e della computer grafica, a partire dagli anni Settanta-Ottanta del Novecento, non va dimenticato come la teoria e la pratica progettuale abbiano ampiamente esplorato, nei secoli passati, le potenzialità analogiche di generazione e controllo tridimensionale offerte dalla geometria e dai principi logico-matematici a essa sottesi. Lo sviluppo e il perfezionamento dei sistemi di modellazione parametrica – inizialmente appannaggio dei soli ingegneri-programmatori – ha consentito di integrare in un unico modello di “rappresentazione del reale” le molteplici variabili del progetto: quelle di natura geometrica, i rapporti tra forma e struttura, gli scambi energetici, fino agli output di produzione di strutture e di superfici di rivestimento. La possibilità di gestione di variabili complesse ha favorito la creazione di linguaggi distintivi, riconoscibili nelle opere di architettura quanto nel design di prodotto, riducendo la distanza tra le due aree del progetto grazie alla condivisione dell’approccio ideativo e di controllo consentito dagli strumenti digitali e dalla scalabilità nella verifica finale delle forme. Il rapporto tra progetto e matematica, tra design e geometria computazionale, è il tema indagato dal terzo numero di MD Journal, pubblicando contributi di ricerca di natura progettuali afferenti a diverse declinazioni tematiche del cosiddetto design parametrico o generativo.
