Abstract

Il saggio nasce da una riflessione sul progetto di Nuova Gourna di Hassan Fathy, in occasione dell'avvio da parte dell ’Unesco e del Governatorato di Luxor di un progetto internazionale per la salvaguardia di Nuova Gourna, riconoscendone la rilevanza, pur nel suo fallimento sociale e culturale. Nel constatare che l’interesse dell’opinione pubblica egiziana nella salvaguardia è forte, e coincide con una tendenza al nuovo tradizionalismo che si è diffuso negli ultimi anni nella classe dell’alta e ricca borghesia egiziana, mi è sembrato opportuno operare un confronto di questo progetto con il progetto del villaggio di Harranya di Ramses Wissa Wassef, che invece è molto riuscito come modello abitativo e culturale. Il saggio ripercorre la metodologia progettuale utilizzata dai due architetti, operandone un confronto delle procedure e del disegno urbano in relazione alle istanze climatiche.
