To deliver tehir genetic material and accessory proteins, viruses must enter host cells. Endocytosis provides viruses this opportunity. However, endocytosis is a complex process that includes several distinct pathways, such as clathrin-mediated endocytosis, caveolin-mediated endocytosis, macropinocytosis, and phagocytosis. Here, we describe the ways used by different viruses to exploit endocytic pathways and find a specific entry route.
