The main aim of the study is to investigate the values of 'should'in EU discourse, specifically, in the Directives for harmonising Member States'efforts to grant refugees'and displaced persons' civil and human rights, focusing on the concept of linguistic and legal vagueness / ambiguity. The investigation is mainly grounded on studies on vagueness and ambiguity in normative texts (Pinkal 19995; Endicott 2000; 2005; Palmer 2001, Williams 2006)
