La relazione di connessione in A. N. Whitehead: aspetti matematici

Abstract

L'articolo è la prima parte di una ricerca mirante a dare veste formale ad un'originale presentazione dei fondamenti della geometria esposta da A.N.Whitehead in "Processo e Realtà" (1929), nella quale le soluzioni proposte per i concetti di base, fra cui quello di punto non compare come primitivo, appaiono precorrere con largo anticipo alcune ricerche attuali. Nel lavoro si prendono in esame le prime dodici assunzioni di Whitehead e le definizioni che le accompagnano, in cui si introducono i concetti primitivi di regione e di connessione estensiva. Viene proposto un sistema assiomatico che riduce al minimo le assunzioni necessarie, e che si dimostra essere equivalente a quello originario. Per tale sistema vengono formulati e dimostrati risultati di indipendenza e di coerenza.
