Abstract

Sin dai suoi esordi, all’inizio degli anni novanta, la telefonia mobile si è diffusa in Europa con impressionante rapidità, facendo registrare, in poco più di un decennio, una percentuale di utenze attive rispetto al numero di abitanti del 103%, con picchi del 171% in Lussemburgo, del 134% in Italia e del 133% in Lituania. Proprio l’Italia, dunque, dove la telefonia fissa non ha mai raggiunto i livelli di diffusione presenti in altre nazioni più avanzate, è diventata il secondo paese europeo per numero di utenze, in un mercato che non sembra conoscere saturazione, visto l’incremento del 15% registrato ancora durante l’ultimo anno. Ne è testimonianza il proliferare, sul nostro territorio, di quelle che si definiscono “Stazioni Radio Base” (SRB), ossia quell’insieme di antenne ricetrasmittenti, apparati elettronici e tralicci di supporto (la cui dimensione può variare, fino a raggiungere altezze ragguardevoli) che, distribuiti sul territorio, rappresentano la spina dorsale di tutto il sistema, garantendo la distribuzione capillare del segnale telefonico. Il saggio propone di considerare il tema delle infrastrutture a supporto della telefonia mobile come tema di architettura
