Agricultural land has faced dramatic abandonment by migration to urban areas caused by socio-economic conditions. Silvicultural practices related to traditional economies (firewood collection, forage pollarding) have also showed drastic decreases. Livestock management has become sedentary. In the Mediterranean basin, all these changes have caused the activation of vegetation dynamics with an increase of shrub and forest cover and a reduction of landscape fragmentation.
