Abstract

Com'è cambiata la geografia elettorale nelle principali città italiane? È vero che i partiti di sinistra hanno abbandonato le «periferie», mentre le forze populiste sono diventate il megafono della protesta dei «luoghi che non contano» e dei territori risultati «sconfitti» nel processo di globalizzazione? Nella migliore tradizione di ricerche e studi dell'Istituto Cattaneo, il volume fornisce risposte rigorose a questi interrogativi e offre, per la prima volta in Italia, un'analisi dettagliata delle trasformazioni nel comportamento elettorale avvenute nell'ultimo decennio all'interno delle città. Il quadro che emerge dalla ricerca presenta un'Italia spaccata in due, non solo tra Nord e Sud, ma tra centri e periferie, cioè tra aree urbane disagiate e zone di relativo benessere. Un dualismo territoriale che, soprattutto nel 2018, si è tradotto in un nuovo dualismo politico, con le forze di sinistra asserragliate nei quartieri colti e benestanti delle città italiane, e i partiti populisti alla conquista dei voti nelle periferie socialmente disagiate. Ma ora che la pandemia ha allargato e, almeno in parte, ridisegnato le aree del disagio, come cambieranno le periferie urbane e quali attori politici, nuovi o vecchi, se ne faranno interpreti? Il volume è accompagnato da una ricca appendice online dove si potranno visualizzare le mappe elettorali delle città metropolitane e i dati utilizzati nella ricerca.
