Abstract

La Provincia de Tucumán es una de las provincias del noroeste argentino, macroregión caracterizada por niveles de desarrollo muy inferiores al promedi nacional, en especial si comparada con la Capital Federal y con las Provincias de Buenos Aires y Santa Fe. La provincia muestra sin embargo un relativo grado de industrialización basada en la industria agroalimentica y metalmecáncia, desarrollándose en los últimos años como un polo exportador de citricos y sus derivados. En este contexto se analizan las principales características de las pequeñas y medianas industrias del sector manufacturero y sus principales problemas, que se refieren a la insuficiencia de la escala productiva, las dificultades para obtener recursos humanos calificados y la insuficiencia del acceso al financiamiento bancario. Se destaca también el relativo aislamiento debido a la lejanía de los principales centros de consumo de Argentina.
