Abstract

Il termine “pluralismo” è connotato da una spiccata ambiguità semantica, essendo utilizzato, spesso con significati molteplici, nell’ambito di distinte discipline scientifiche: quelle filosofiche, nelle quali il termine compare alla fine del Settecento con Wolff e Kant per indicare in polemica con il solipsismo l’atteggiamento mentale di chi riconosce intorno a sé l’esistenza degli altri, ma anche quelle sociologiche e giuridiche. Nella teoria politica il termine si afferma nel secondo dopoguerra per indicare società caratterizzate da due o più partiti politici che competono liberamente tra loro e dal riconoscimento delle comunità e associazioni intermedie fra l'individuo e lo Stato. Presupposto di tali profili, che potremmo indicare rispettivamente come pluralismo politico e pluralismo sociale, è poi il pluralismo delle idee, dei valori, delle religioni (vedi laicità), nella convinzione che tutti siano portatori di verità parziali, in opposizione ad ogni forma di monismo culturale. Analoghi sono i significati con i quali il termine pluralismo compare nella riflessione giuridico-costituzionalistica, nella quale non mancano anche usi in parte differenti, comunque evocativi di una dimensione “tendenzialmente anticentralistica” e “antistatalistica”.
