Abstract

In Friuli da oltre trent’anni il Monte San Simeone (1505 m) e assurto a icona rappresentativa dei devastanti sismi che nel 1976colpironol’Italia Nord-orientale. Anche se studi recenti di maggior dettaglio ne hanno spostato l’epicentro di maggio alcuni chilometri verso Est (Lusevera), nell’immaginario popolare il San Simeone e la rappresentazione e concretizzazione fisica di entrambi quegli eventi sismici, vuoi per la vicinanza con l’area antropizzata di massima devastazione (Venzone e Gemona), vuoi per il suo incremento di altitudine: ben 18 cm dall’ultima misurazione geodetica effettuata nei primi anni ’50. Ma la valenza geologica del Monte San Simeone va ben oltre. La sua ripida parete orientale, modellata dai transiti glaciali, e una sezione naturale che illustra in modo ineccepibile l’assetto deformativo della catena alpina orientale.
