Il saggio prende le mosse dalla diversa concezione dell'ontologia in Martin Heidegger e Rudolf Carnap negli anni 1920-30 e discute la concezione di verità e di ontologia esposta in Sein und Zeit alla luce delle più recenti interpretazioni della sua opera. Vengono discusse le interpretazioni di Rorty, Philipse e Gehtmann, e viene fatto un confronto con la concezione di Wittgenstein.
