Thomas Luckmann: linguaggio e processi di istituzionalizzazione

Abstract

Nella letteratura internazionale sulla sociologia fenomenologica della cultura di Luckmann, le tematiche connesse alla religione e alla fenomenologia dei mondi vitali hanno acquisito negli anni una rilevanza sempre più crescente tanto da rendere ormai l’autore quasi un classico in questi ambiti. Questo saggio indaga invece un aspetto, l’apporto di Luckmann alla sociologia del linguaggio ancora stranamente poco indagato nel contesto internazionale (proprio in un momento, peraltro, in cui le dinamiche sociali connesse al linguaggio diventano sempre più dibattute). Sono analizzate in modo critico le tesi sostenute da Luckmann in tre saggi dedicati specificatementre al tema in questione e queste tesi sono anche collocate all’interno del quadro teorico elaborato dallo studioso. Un’attenzione particolare è dedicata alla riflessione sullo statuto epistemologico della sociologia del linguaggio (le tesi di Luckmann sono comparate a quelle della sociolinguistica e alla semiotica pragmatista elaborate negli stessi anni), al ruolo del linguaggio nei processi di istituzionalizzazione (confrontandosi con le tesi di Gehlen) e all’analisi delle funzioni del linguaggio (su cui Luckmann si confronta e prende le distanze dalle tesi funzionaliste)
